Last year I became especially inspired by the weed lines of sargassum and all the sea life living below while we were out mahi fishing. I'd be scooping up the weeds and studying their intricate colors, shapes, and patterns. I was finding myself in the water photographing their movement in the waves, and all the fish and sea life hiding within. This collection is full of blues, greens, and golds that I felt the need to bring to life in the studio.
Baby sea turtles race to the waters as fast as their flippers will carry them and begin a swim frenzy to clear the preadator -rich shore. Researchers have placed tracking devices on baby turtles and have found that the floating mats of sargassum is where they call home. The large mats of seaweed meet some of their most pressing needs and gives them a metabolic boost as they grow. The sargassum mats soak up the sun rays and the turtles can snuggle up in that heat to supercharge their growth. Next time your cruising the weed lines take a closer look, the baby turtles blend in very well to stay safe from their predators, but they are there!
