Last year I became especially inspired by the weed lines of sargassum and all the sea life living below while we were out mahi fishing. I'd be scooping up the weeds and studying their intricate colors, shapes, and patterns. I was finding myself in the water photographing their movement in the waves, and all the fish and sea life hiding within. This collection is full of blues, greens, and golds that I felt the need to bring to life in the studio.
Seeing flying fish jumping out of the water and soaring above the waves never gets old to me. Their stream lined torpedo shape helps them gather enough speed when underwater to break the surface, and their large wing-like pectoral fins get them airborne. We've taught our 2 boys to look for the flying fish because that means the big fish are close by! These fish can reach heights over 4ft and glide for distances up to 655 feet without touching the water.
